…the Garden Grows : BioMe (land)

2015

Canal Convergence

Temporary public commission Scottsdale Public Art
Scottsdale, AZ

25 pinwheel plants
1 – 2.5 feet in Diameter
Installation area –  55 x 15 feet

the installation also included 64 floating pinwheel plants.

With this work I wanted to create a conceptual link between the native plant life that exists in the arid desert land with the human lives sustained by the water delivered through the elaborate canal system. Plants have adapted themselves to survive in the extreme conditions of the desert landscape. Whereas with humans, the land has been adapted through our engineering to accommodate our survival needs. This project developed out of my interest in biomimicry and how the solutions for survival in any given environment can be found in nature, and by looking at their strategies for sustainability.
